FAQ's
What is a lease and what can I do with it?
A lease is a non-exclusive license to use the beat within the limits outlined in the contract. Non-exclusive means other parties can also lease & use the beat, whether they are music artists, content creators or TV/Film companies.
What are exclusive rights?
Exclusive rights means only you can use the beat, no other parties will be able to purchase, lease or use the beat for any purpose. There are no usage limits in the exclusive contract.
Are the beats royalty-free?
Yes for leases there are no royalties owed to the Producer in terms of mechanical (sales/streaming) royalties. You as the artist do not have to pay a penny to the producer other than the upfront purchase price. Other types of royalties such as performance royalties (for example if the song is played on the radio) will be paid by collection societies such as ASCAP directly to the Artist & Producer 50/50.
For exclusive contracts mechanical royalties are negotiable.
What is the 50% producer's publishing/writer's share?
Publishing means who owns the finished song/track. Under the contracts the Artist(s) will own 50% and the producer will own 50%. Certain types of income such as performance royalties will be split 50/50 between the Artist & Producer by collection societies & performance rights organizations such as ASCAP.
The writer's/composers share means who made the song, in this case the Artist(s) and Producer made the song jointly thus the 50/50 split. The term "writer" means anyone who composed or performed music or lyrics in the song.
